Christmas at Walt Disney World
Take the usual Disney magic, add millions of lights, enormous Christmas trees, special parades, glorious sunshine with artificial snow and you have an extra special way to spend Christmas. Starting in late November, Walt Disney World prepares for "Happy Holidays".
Even the enormous Christmas trees are themed with popcorn chains, gingerbread men and toys in the Magic Kingdom, a world theme in EPCOT, aluminium decorations in the Contemporary Resort and shells at the Disney's Beach Club.
Every year the MAGIC KINGDOM hosts the "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party" with parades, character greetings and carols with many popular rides also open.
At EPCOT, you can get into the real Christmas spirit by attending the Candlelight Processional. The singing is provided by a combination of choirs from around the United States, cast members and the "Voices of Liberty" singers. Narration of the Christmas story is from a celebrity. Use of lighting and a 50-piece orchestra adds to this joyous and moving experience. Around the World Showcase, you can experience "Holidays Around the World" and a daily tree lighting ceremony.
Our favourite has always been the "Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights" in DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS. The Osborne family had been banned from displaying their lights in Little Rock, Arkansas as the 2 million lights were disrupting the traffic as so many people flocked to see them. They have now grown to in excess of 5 million lights proudly on display in the "Streets of America" area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You will see everything from the traditional nativity scenes, angels as well as the standard Disney characters, combined with music and Florida "snow" which give a real Christmas feel
DISNEY'S ANIMAL KINGDOM has the most low key Christmas but even here we found a Christmas tree and carol singers with their own animal version of the 12 days of Christmas.
With the exception of "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party", Disney's Christmas enhancements to their theme parks are included in the regular ticket price.
